1. Rabindra Sarobar, Kolkata
Rabindra Sarobar, formerly known as Dhakuria Lake, is one of the scenic places to visit in Kolkata. Previously a marshy jungle, the site was developed in the 1920s over 192 acres with the lake boasting a surface area of around 72 acres. This enchanting space is an oasis of green quietness that is perfect to break free from the mundane routine. Some of the trees in the surrounding area of the lake are over 100 years old. It is one of the most popular recreational spots in the city, and thousands of visitors come here throughout the day to jog, walk, cycle, admire the greenery, relax with friends, spend moments of repose, etc. Visitors who have kids in tow have nothing to worry about as there is a children park to keep the young guests entertained. Besides, there are gardens, auditoria, rowing and swimming clubs, a sunrise point and a mosque within the sprawling precincts. Those who visit during winters are especially lucky as they get to see migratory birds during that time. Above and beyond, Kolkata’s only Japanese Buddhist Temple – Nipponzan Myohoji – lies towards the south of this lake.
